How to Keep Gum Disease at Bay

Posted .

Gum disease is a serious and dangerous dental issue that can severely affect your smile, oral health and even your entire health. This is why Dr. Jim Const, strongly encourages you to prevent gum disease as much as possible. Now, that might be a difficult task if you’re not sure how to do so. So, our dentist is happy to give you the prevention tips you need. Those tips are:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: It’s strongly recommended to brush your teeth twice a day (with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride/abrasive toothpaste), floss your teeth once a day (with waxed floss or another product that is effective and easy to use) and rinse your mouth daily (with antibacterial mouthwash). Your oral hygiene routine can remove the bacteria and plaque that promote gum disease daily.

-Attend your regular dental checkups: Dental cleanings are essential when preventing gum disease. This is because the tools and techniques your dental team use remove the plaque and tartar that your oral hygiene routine cannot remove. It’s very important to make your dental cleanings a top priority.
